What are the application requirements for UX Academy if I have previous design experience?

If you have previous design experience in visual and UI design, you can apply directly to UX Academy. All students who enter into UX Academy must pass a skills assessment, which determines whether or not applicants have the foundational skills necessary to begin the program.

This assessment will involve:

  • Design work

You can apply with a professional portfolio containing 1x desktop size page and 3x mobile screens in line with an understanding of responsive design, as long as the work was created within the last two years.

We kindly ask that you ensure the link that you provide is shareable, and that you’re able to directly indicate which parts of the project or projects you’d like us to review are created by you, and if any assets involved are not your work.

If you would prefer to create the design work from a design brief, please take a look at this doc. This brief is designed as a 10-hour design challenge, but may take fewer than 10 hours. We are happy to review projects created in Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, CSS or HTML. Please note that projects created in sites platforms such as Squarespace or Wix do not meet the eligibility criteria for entry.

The above will be evaluated to determine whether you can skip Foundations and enter directly into UX Academy.

  • Motivations for the program

All applicants applying to the program with previous design experience will need to schedule a call with our Admissions team. You’ll also need to submit a short written answer, in 200 words or less, outlining your motivations for applying to UX Academy, and what you hope to achieve through the program.

Please keep in mind that portfolios which do not demonstrate UI-design or showcase an understanding of responsive designing will not be considered. We cannot assess any other type of design work, such as graphic design, fine arts, or architecture based portfolios, for entry into UX Academy.
